Introducing Our 2011 kids!
| 03/16/2011: Blondie had a full udder this morning and some very soft ligaments. Figured that it would be tomorrow morning, but Blondie had other ideas. She started pushing lightly about 4:30 and by 5 we had a pretty little golden buck on the ground. Blondie delivered this #7.2 guy without much fuss and only a little help to straighten out his legs as his feet where tucked right up under his nose. Blondie milked about a cup of colostrum from Nigerian sized teats and dumped half of that one the floor during the rodeo. ;0P Good thing we had some frozen because this guy is HUNGRY!!! He was up on his feet and looking for food in very short order and we have been racing to keep him fed since! He is for sale as a meat wether or as a registered experimental buck. | 03/18/2011: The day started out with the promise of an impending kidding, as Becca had no ligaments and a tight udder. The day and labor were progressing along in what seemed a normal fashion, but it was not to be. Becca was beginning to push and I went in to check and see if everything was in order. Sadly, it was not. There was a rather large head and no feet anywhere to be found. Rebecca was a rather small-statured doe and there was no room to work at all. I tried pushing the head back in to get some legs, but that was no joy as the uterus was already trying to return to normal size. The next approach was to deliver the head and try and work around to neck to get a leg. There was simply no room anywhere and this kid was stuck and rapidly losing his battle to breath as he was being compressed and Becca was screaming. We had to put her down and pull the kid back through the uterus. He was very stressed, but with a little massaging he began to revive and took 6oz. of colostrum from the freezer. Needless to say there was only a single buck home in the uterus. He is a PB Nubian and is for sale as a registered/unregistered buck or a wether. E-mail for more information and pricing. |

03/21/2011: In true Boer style, Stormy kidded late this evening (sometime after 11pm) without fuss or muss. I fell asleep watching a movie and woke up around 1am to find her nursing a new baby whom she had already cleaned and dried. For the second year in a row Stormy gave us a single, spotted doeling. This one was 8.0# and the proud poppa is our PB Nubian buck, Jazz. Gotta love those Boer girls! ;0) E-mail for more information/pricing.

03/24/2011: After fussing around all day and worrying me half to death, Tilly finally got down to business about bedtime. Thanks girl. I saw her pushing on the camera and went out to find a head sticking out with no legs!! Not again!! Tilly is a pretty roomy girl and I was able to work my way in along the neck of this guy and get a leg forward, at which point he slid out pretty easily with one front leg back. He was pretty limp, but with some massage he came around. The next two kids came in the optimum "nose and toes" position and were quickly cleaned up and joined their brother. Each time I anxiously checked to see if we had a doe, and each time I was disappointed. 1, 2, 3 strikes!! Three 88% Nubian bucklings (unregisterable as they are grades) and one very disappointed goatherd. This brings this year's count to 5 bucks and only one boer cross doe. Tilly, like the trooper she is, proceeded to down a bowl of warm molasses water and give us half a gallon of colostrum. At least we can replenish our frozen stock, which we had used up on the last couple of little ones. ;0)

03/26/2011: I knew that Bliz was getting close last night when we went to bed as she had no ligaments, but her udder didn't seem totally full yet and so I figured that she would wait until daylight. I figured wrong. About 3am I heard a goat holler on the monitor so I fired up the camera and there was Bliz with a set of front legs, head and shoulders hanging out of her and looking very confused. Thus the hollering. By the time Nick and I got down there there was a new little doeling in the straw and four totally confused yearling does standing on the other side of the stall looking at her like she was an alien and Bliz was one of them! ;0) We de-slimed the little one and I checked Bliz. There was no one else home. This single doeling (finally) weighed in at 7.2# and I do believe that she will be staying here with us.

04/14/2011: Sue fussed around most of the day and we were beginning to wonder if she was ever going to let her kids out to play as she was already a week late. She finally laid down and started pushing around 6pm and a very large pair of feet soon emerged right on top of a large nose. As I was pulling the legs out straight to make things a little easier for poor little Sue (who is a first freshener Oberhasli and more of a medium-sized goat than our others) I was thinking "Oh no, another single buck!". Boy was I surprised when upon examination this huge single was found to be a doe! I checked twice and had Maria check a third time as she was drying her off just to be sure that I was seeing right. This gal weighed in at a whopping 9.3# and was up on her feet and trying to eat us out of house and home within minutes of delivery. She is the first kid out of our junior herdsire, Corey and is awfully cute and will be registered as an experimental. She may be for sale after we see what Wookie has in June. ;0) Sue is doing great and came through it like a trooper. She promptly hopped up on the milkstand and produced 2# of colostrum and ate a quart of grain and sunflower seeds and a couple of animal crackers!
